Dioon edule (Cycad) - This is a slow growing cycad with 3 to 5 foot long feathery frond-like foliage. New growth is a soft blue-gray maturing to shiny green. Foliage arches out of a half foot wide and three feet tall trunk. It can achieve 8 feet in height and 6 feet in spread. Male and female cones are produced at maturity on separate plants, dioecious. It does its best in part sun. Water regularly. It is hardy to at least 18 degrees F.
The information that is presented on this page is based on research we have conducted about this plant in our library and from reliable online sources. We also consider observations we have made of it in the nursery's garden and in other gardens we have visited, as well how it performs in our nursery crops out in the field. We incorporate comments that we receive from others as well and welcome getting feedback from anyone who may have additional information, particularly if they know of cultural information that would aid others in growing Dioon edule. |
