Dioon edule (Cycad) - This is a slow growing cycad with 3 to 5 foot long feathery frond-like foliage. New growth is a soft blue-gray maturing to shiny green. Foliage arches out of a half foot wide and three feet tall trunk. It can achieve 8 feet in height and 6 feet in spread. Male and female cones are produced at maturity on separate plants, dioecious. It does its best in part sun. Water regularly. It is hardy to at least 18 degrees F.
The information provided on this page is based on the research we have conducted about this plant in our nursery library, from what we have found about it on reliable online sources, as well as from observations of our nursery crops of this plant as well as of plants growing in the nursery's garden and those in other gardens. We also will incorporate comments received from others and welcome getting feedback from anyone who may have additional information, particularly if this information includes cultural information that would aid others in growing Dioon edule. |
