Panicum virgatum 'Prairie Sky' (Blue Switch Grass) - A deciduous warm-season clump-forming grass native to the American prairies. It has blue-gray upright foliage to 4-5 ft tall and attractive airy pink-tinged flowers in mid-summer. 'Prairie Sky' was a selection made by Roger Gettig with very blue foliage that has proved itself in western US gardens. Plant in full sun. Tolerant of most soils and irrigation practices from dry to soggy - shorter when kept dry. Hardy into USDA zone 4. Cut back in late winter. We grew this plant from 2002 to 2007.
The information provided on this page is based on the research we have conducted about this plant in our nursery library, from what we have found about it on reliable online sources, as well as from observations of our nursery crops of this plant as well as of plants growing in the nursery's garden and those in other gardens. We also will incorporate comments received from others and welcome getting feedback from anyone who may have additional information, particularly if this information includes cultural information that would aid others in growing Panicum virgatum 'Prairie Sky'. |
