Plant in full sun and water regularly. Cut back after bloom, as it grows back up from the base. Hardy to <0 degrees F. Rated down to USDA zone 5 (-10 to -20 °F). A good cut flower.

Aster ericoides is North American native that grows from central to eastern Canada south to Mexico. The name for the genus comes from the Greek word Aster that means "star" and its specific epithet is a reference to the foliage of this plant resembling plants in the genus Erica. The Aster genus was a huge genus with many plants being renamed based on morphologic and molecular research. The current name of this species is Symphyotrichum ericoides var. ericoides with this genus name coming from the Greek word 'sumphuo' meaning to "unite" combined with 'trikhos' meaning "hair" due to pappus hairs arranged in a basal ring.
