Salvia 'Firescape' at Firescape Graden in Santa Barbara

Salvia Firescape in the Firescape Garden
Salvia 'Firescape' in the Firescape Garden.

This plant was introduced into the nursery trade by San Marcos Growers in 1995. It was collected by Randy Baldwin at the Santa Barbara City Fire Department Firescape Garden. It is a spontaneous seedling hybrid and is presumed to be a hybrid between Salvia 'Dara's Choice' and Salvia leucophylla 'Point Sal Spreader as it germinated between these two plants. Although an attractive plant that merited a place in a dry garden, we are sadly no longer growing this plant. Plantings of this cultivar were long maintained at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden and perhaps someday we will grow it again.
