Plant in full sun to part shade and water sparingly, if at all as it has proven to be tolerant of very dry conditions and this also can slow its rapid growth and keep it more compact. I has proven frost hardy to 25° F.

Grevillea 'Winpara Gem' arose as a spontaneous seedling garden hybrid on a property called "Winpara" at Jervois, South Australia in 1981 and was submitted to the Australian Cultivar Registration Authority by Mrs K Bartlett in 1984. It was an open pollinated seedling of G. thelemanniana and suspected of being a cross with either Grevillea argyrophylla or Grevillea olivacea.. It is noted as most resembling the G. thelemanniana but with leaves not as much divided and with shorter flower racemes. We grew this plant at SMG from 1994 until 2004 and really only decided to stop growing it because it got too large.
