Aloe wilsonii (Wilson's Ugandan Aloe) - A solitary or clustering plant on a short decumbent stem with rosettes of many 10 inch long lanceolate slightly decurved slightly glossy leaves and in mid-winter a 2 foot tall inflorescence rises up bearing small decorative green tipped orange flower buds that open to display the tubular flowers that are light orange with green and while petal tips.

Plant in full sun and water occasionally to infrequently. Cultivation and winter hardiness is as yet not well documented, but this species grows a fairly high elevations in central east Africa and has wintered well in the Santa Barbara region and experienced brief winter temperatures down to just below 31° F. A nice-looking uncommon aloe.

Aloe wilsonii is native to northern Uganda and northwestern Kenya. It grows on rocky slopes at altitudes between 5,000 to 10,000 feet. It was first formally described by the botanist Gilbert Westacott Reynolds in 1956. The name Aloe comes from ancient Greek name aloe that was derived from the Arabian word 'alloch' that was used to describe the plant or its juice that was used as medicine. This plants specific epithet honors John G. Wilson (1927–2019), a British agricultural officer and ecologist with the Ugandan Department of Agriculture. Our plants grown from seed collected in 2017 by Tom Cole on Imagit Peak on Mount Moratu, Uganda.
