Grow in water or in moist soil in sun or part shade. It is hardy to about 20-25 degrees F. This plant with its strong bold lines are attractive contrasted against lighter colors.

We received this plant from the amazing plantsman Gary Hammer and grew it from 1991 until 2008 using the name he called it, Cyperus textilis. This name however is considered to be a synonym of Cyperus vaginatus, a plant that grows throughout Australia. The name for the genus comes from the historical Greek name for Sweet Galingale, Cyperus longus and the specific epithet is from the Latin word 'vagina', meaning a "sheath".
