Plant in full sun in a well-drained soil and irrigate occasionally to regularly. This plant was grown from seed originally collected at the Getty Villa in Santa Monica, California by Santa Barbara Botanic Garden horticulturist Carol Bornstein. The Getty staff did not have a record of the plant so we listed it with their permission as "Getty Villa".

Scabiosa are mostly from the Mediterranean region. . The name for the genus comes from the Latin word 'scabiosus' that means "mangy", "rough" or "itchy" in reference to the Scabiosa herb's traditional use to treat scabies, an illness that causes a severe itching sensation. This plant was very pretty plant but apparently was an annual plant and we discontinued growing it after offering it in 2009 and 2010.
