Coprosma 'Rainbow Surprise' - A dense rounded shrub that grows to 4 to 5 feet tall and as wide with interesting small obovate dark green leaves with broad pale-yellow margins that turn orange and red. In fall the color of the leaves is a deep orange red with a dark green in the middle and remains this way until new growth commences in the spring. Flowers are inconspicuous.

Plant in full coastal sun to light shade inland in moderately well-drained soil. Irrigate occasionally to regularly. Hardy to 20-25 F. Tolerates shearing (best in fall or spring) or can be allowed to take a more natural form. This plant is thought to be a Coprosma repens cultivar or hybrid. It received Plant Breeders Rights protection in Australia in 1997 but this status was retracted in 1998. We grew this plant from 2006 until 2013.
