Retrophyllum rospigliosii (Romerón Pine) - A redwood-like conifer from the Andean Cloud Forests (Venezuela, Colombia and Peru) where it grows to over 100 feet tall. Described with other Podocarpus species in Gerd Krussmann' "Manual of Cultivated Conifers", this plant was reclassified as Decussocarpus rospigliossii (from D.J. De Laubenfels "Revision of the Malesian and Pacific Rainforest Conifers - 1969) and later as Retrophyllum rospigliosii. We are trialing this plant to see how it will perform in coastal California. Currently the hardiness and cultural information is unknown to us and if anyone has additional information on this plant please let us know.
