Phygelius x rectus 'Moonraker' (Cape fuchsia) - Yellow tubular flowers are borne on tall spikes in summer. (Somewhat reminiscent of penstemon.) This fast growing shurb forms mounds with suckering stems to 4' tall. The soft-textured, dark green leaves are pointed, densely covering the stems at the bottom scattered more at top. Prefers moderate watering, especially in summer, with rich loamy well-drained soil. Grows in sun or light shade. Hardy to 15° F or less, but will die back in a hard freeze. 'Devil's Tears' (Deep red flowers), 'Moonraker' (Bright yellow flowers), 'Salmon Leap' (Pale orange-salmon flowers) and 'Winchester Fanfare' (Reddish-pink flowers) were developed by Peter Dummer, former head propagator at Hillier's Nurseries, U.K. They result from crosses and backcrosses involving P. capensis and P. aequalis, mountain natives of eastern South Africa
