Perrierastrum oreophilum (Madagascar Mtn. Fern Shrub) - This shrub from the mountains of Madagascar grows to 4 feet tall (a bit taller in part shade) by 3 to 4 feet wide. It has very unusual fleshy green dissected foliage and in early summer it produces the 1/2" wide white flowers with green bracts. Plant in full sun to light shade with occasional irrigation. This is the lone species in a monotypic genus of the Mint family. We received our stock plant of this decorative little plant from Richard Dufresne but have not found much additional information on this plant from other sources. Dylan Hannon recently contacted us to inform us that the correct spelling of the species is Perrierastrum oreophilum. (Perrierastrum oreophilum Guillaumin) The name was published in the "Bulletin du Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle" , sér. 2 2: 694. 1930.
