Salvia guaranitica 'Costa Rica Blue' - Robust tropical looking semi-shrubby perennial with several 6' tall stems arising from the base that branch out to create a large mass of bright green 3" heart-shaped leaves from which arise the dark, colbalt blue flowers from summer until first frost. Two-inch blossoms, ranging in color from true blue to violet, open in succession from long clusters. Some selections begin blooming in spring others in summer, both continuing until frost. Moderate to regular watering. Ultimately hardy to 20 F or less, though the tops are easily burned by frost. We discontinued growing this plant in 2005.  This description is based on research and observations made of this plant as it grows in our nursery, in our nursery garden and in other gardens that we have visited. We also try to incorporate comments received from others and appreciate getting feedback of any kind from those who have any additional information about this plant, particularly if they disagree with what we have written or if they have additional cultural tips that would aid others in growing Salvia 'Costa Rica Blue'.
