Aristea ecklonii 'Sonja' (Blue Stars) - A robust form of the species which is a hardy herbaceous perennial resembling a giant Sisyrinchium, composed of fans of long, bright green blade-like leaves. Flower stalks to 2 1/2 feet tall hold clusters of three to four star-like bright blue flowers that have purple stamens. It should be planted in a rich, evenly moist, well-draining soil. Plant in full sun or light shade and protect from frosts. Mature plants do not transplant well. Hardy to 20 degrees F. This plant was initially propagated from seed received from Seedco. We grew this plant starting in 1998 but discontinued growing it in 2007.  This description is based on research and observations made of this plant as it grows in our nursery, in our nursery garden and in other gardens that we have visited. We also try to incorporate comments received from others and appreciate getting feedback of any kind from those who have any additional information about this plant, particularly if they disagree with what we have written or if they have additional cultural tips that would aid others in growing Aristea ecklonii 'Sonja'.
