Santa Barbara Big Trees

Santa Barbara is a Tree City USA with a long heritage of tree plantings and amazingly large specimens of many different species of trees that have been planted throughout the community. Many of these trees have made it into the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo maintianed California Big Tree Registry. The trees listed below are all on this registry, which means they are the largest known measured specimens of that species in California and many of them are also listed as national champions, which means they are the largest measured specimens in the United States. The links on each species will take visitors to the registry, which has information about the particular tree and pictures of it.

Arbutus 'Marina'	Strawberry Tree - This specimen on the grounds of San Marcos Growers.
Banksia integrifolia	This specimen of the Coast Banksia is growing near the University of California Santa Barbara Biology Greenhouses - National Champion
Castanospermum australe	Morton Bay Chestnut – This specimen at the Stow House in Goleta. - National Champion
Chiranthodendron pentadactylon	Monkey Hand Tree - This specimen is the Lassen Open Space in the eastern Goleta Valley. - National Champion
Cocculus laurifolius	Platter-Leaf - This specimen at the Lobero Building in downtown Santa Barbara.
Corymbia citriodora	, Lemon-Scented Gum - This specimen on the historic Ellwood Cooper Ranch. - National Champion
Dracaena draco	Dragon Tree - The are two co-champion Dragon Trees in the Santa Barbara area,this one is located on a private estate in Montecito. - National Champion
Dracaena draco	Dragon Tree - The other co-champion in the Santa Barbara area is at the Mt. Calvary Monastery next to the Santa Barbara Mission. - National Champion
Eucalyptus cladocalyx	Sugar Gum - This speciemne is located in the park in front of the Santa Barbara Mission next to the city's Rose Garden. - National Champion
Eucalyptus cylindrocarpa	Woodline Malee - This specimen is located at the Wake Center in the eastern Goleta Valley. - National Champion
Eucalyptus rudis	Desert Gum - This specimen is located at the Wake Center in the eastern Goleta Valley. - National Champion
Geijera parviflora	Australian Willow - This specimen is located at the Goleta Community Center. - National Champion
Harpephyllum caffrum	South African Wild Plum - This specimen is located in Franceschi Park on the Santa Barbara Riviera. - National Champion
Heteromeles arbutifolia	Toyon - Located along Highway 101 next to train tracks near the Arroyo Hondo Preserve. - National Champion
Hymenosporum flavum	Sweetshade - This specimen is a street tree located near the corner of Dibblee Castillo Street and Castillo Street in Santa Barbara.
Pinus torreyana	Torrey Pine - This amazing specimen is located on Carpinteria Ave in downtown Carpinteria. - National Champion
Platanus racemosa	Sister Witness Tree - This specimen is located in Jonny D. Wallis Neighborhood Park in downtown Goleta. - National Champion
Quercus tomentella	Island Oak - This specimen is located at the Santa Barbara Botanic Gardenra. - National Champion
Tipuana tipu	Tipu Tree - This specimen is located at 711 Buena Terra,in the eastern Goleta Valley.
