Alice Waidhofer was a well-respected succulent collector who resided in Stockton, California. She was born in February 1919 and passed away in her late 90's in 2017. In 2004 when Alice decided to move from the home she and her husband Joe had lived in for the past 50 years she decided that she would have to part with her plant collection. She had an amazing collection of plants in greenhouses, shade structures and all conceivable other spaces, including the entire 2nd floor of their large Victorian home. San Marcos Growers was the primary recipient of her large collection but others received plants as well. She was a world renown collector of Sansevieria, and she made sure to get each taxon she had to Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden in Thailand and to the Huntington Botanical Garden in San Marino, California. Even after each of these institutions got these plants there was still almost a complete duplicate set that San Marcos Growers received along with an incredible collection of Gasteria and other succulents. Over the years we have propagated many of these plants and added them to our ever-increasing list of succulent plants. |
