Juncus effusus pacificus 'Quartz Creek' (Quartz Creek Soft Rush) - An evergreen rush that has dark green long erect grass-like blades. It will grow to 2 to 3 feet tall and spreads eventually forming dense colonies. The rate of growth is so slow that it can almost be considered clump forming instead of spreading. Small brown flowers stand among the foliage in the summer. Plant in sun or part shade in moist soil. It is hardy to 0 degrees F. This selection, made by Dave Fross of Native Sons Nursery, comes from Southern Oregon near the California border.
The description above is based on our research and observations of this plant growing in our nursery, in our own garden and in other gardens in the Santa Barbara area. We would appreciate hearing from anyone who has additional information about this plant, even if they disagree with what we have written.
