Agave guadalajarana (Maguey Chato) - This plant forms attractively shaped small, compact rosettes to 2 feet tall by 3 feet wide having blue grayish leaves with evenly spaced spines along the margins. Plant in full sun. Drought tolerant. This plant comes from the state of Jalisco, Mexico and is noted as rare in cultivation the US. Our plants are grown from seed collected by Ruth Bancroft Garden curator Brian Kemble.
The description above is based on our research and observations of this plant growing in our nursery and in our own and other Santa Barbara gardens. We would appreciate hearing from anyone who has additional information or disagrees with what we have written.
