Anigozanthos Kanga Burgundy ['Rambueleg'] PP18,209 (Bush Elegance Kangaroo Paw) - A fantastic new evergreen perennial from Angus Stewart at Ramm Botanicals of New South Wales, Australia. It has 10 inch long bright green leaves and a well branched inflorescence that reaches to 20 inches tall with dark purple-red flowers from spring-fall. Plant in full sun and water occasionally to regularly spring through fall. Hardy to about 25-30 degrees F. This plant was the result of a cross made in 1998 between Anigozanthos flavidus 'H80' as the seed parent and a variegated Kangaroo paw, Anigozanthos flavidus 'Flashpoint', as the pollen parent. It was selected for its compact yet upright outwardly-spreading habit with freely branching inflorescences with early and continual production of large red-purple colored flowers. It is also noted as having brighter green-colored leaves and more freely-branching and longer-flowering stems than plants of the female parent selection. It has been compared to the widely grown 'Bush Ranger' as being slightly taller with longer leaves and flowers than 'Bush Ranger' and flowers that are a deeper red. This plant is being marketed with other plants in the Bush Series as Bush Elegance in Australia but in the U.S. is marketed as Kanga Burgundy through Bodgers Botanicals.  This description is based on research and observations of this plant as it grows in our nursery, in our nursery garden and in other gardens that we visit. We also incorporate comments received and appreciate getting feedback of any kind from those who have any additional information about this plant, particularly if they disagree with what we have written or if they have additional cultural tips that would aid others in growing Anigozanthos Kanga Burgundy PP18,209.
